Is Print on Demand Halal? Ownership, Designs & POD Platforms
Print-on-demand and gharar: selling a shirt before it exists, wakalah vs sale, and haram designs. Same family as dropshipping.
Short answer: POD often has the same issue as dropshipping: you may sell before a specific item exists in your ownership. Some scholars allow it if you are clearly an agent of the printer or you acquire title in a way that satisfies sale rules. Haram designs (indecency, shirk imagery) fail independently. Not a fatwa.
| Model | Concern |
|---|---|
| Customer pays you; printer makes it later | Sale of unspecified / unowned goods |
| Printer is seller; you earn commission | Closer to affiliate / wakalah |
